Holistic Massage

The word ‘holism’ comes from the Greek ‘holos’, meaning whole. Used in relation to massage it means the consideration of the complete person during the treatment, rather than just focusing on the part/s deemed to be problematic.

Holistic massage recognises that people are a sum of their parts, where mental, emotional and physical states are closely interlinked. Over time, imbalance in any one of these may manifest as a physical pain, ache or ongoing symptom.

Holistic massage is nurturing and relaxing and aims to treat you as a whole person, not just your physical ailments. It uses long strokes, kneading and friction techniques on the more superficial layers of muscle and tissue, help the body to heal itself. The treatment allows you space and time to slow down, helping you to rediscover your natural feeling of wellbeing. People often report that they sleep better after a holistic massage.

Deep Tissue Massage

Deep Tissue Massage focuses on the deeper layers of muscle tissue. When muscles are stressed, they block oxygen and nutrients, leading to inflammation that builds up toxins in the muscle tissue - this can lead to experiencing our muscles being tight, tense or painful. Deep tissue massage aims to release the chronic patterns of tension in the body through slow strokes and deep pressure on the contracted areas, either following or going across the fibres of muscles, tendons and fascia, releasing toxins from muscles and encouraging blood and oxygen to circulate easily.

Deep tissue massage also helps to break up and eliminate scar tissue which is formed following trauma to muscle fibres from overuse or injury. Deep tissue massage usually focuses on specific areas and may cause some soreness during or right after the massage. You should, however, feel better than ever within a day or two.

Indian Head Massage

Indian Head Massage aims to release the stress that has accumulated in the tissues, muscles and joints of the head, face, neck and shoulders. Unlike the other treatments, you are fully clothed and sitting for this treatment. Indian Head Massage uses deep kneading and compression movements over the neck, shoulder, arm and scalp areas, and gentle pressing and stroking techniques on the pressure points of the face.

Indian head massage helps increase flexibility in the neck and shoulders, improves blood circulation and lymphatic flow, frees knots of muscular tension, relaxes connective tissue, and aids in the elimination of accumulated toxins and waste products.

Indian Head Massage is particularly good for reducing the effects of stress and tension, fatigue, insomnia, headaches, migraine and sinusitis. Clients report that the experience is deeply calming and relaxing, leaving them feeling energised and revitalised and better able to concentrate.
